Unbox™
“What if we could connect all products in one go for the user to have his website online within minutes and with minimal effort?”
The sky is the limit for any wild idea... So, in close collaboration with the CEO, vision owner, UX Manager, and Development teams we conceptualized the full experience, through end-to-end, of a user "unboxing" his products.
What does this mean? This meant that within the platform, we would think of the full experience for when a product is individually bought, and then unboxed which means configured. Having a hosting does not mean ultimately that you will have your website online. You will need to configure a Domain Name, eventually use an SSL to protect it, and even install and configure Email mailboxes. So for it to work it needs to be connected to other products and, it needs to be configured.
There was a need for a new technological approach to how we would make a full connection between different products. So this full process was a great collaboration between the vision of the stakeholders, the dev teams, and UX.
This has now become a patented process within the company and is regarded as its primary innovation.
My role — I was the main designer from Hosting and I designed the full vision of unboxing for the platform, this meant not only a vision for the Hosting Product but a vision of a scalable solution that could be in place for all the products in the platform.
Resulting work — The full vision for the unboxing process was defined. I designed the full wizard flow. Defined the Hosting Product flow, which had in itself the step of the Email Product, and the step of the SSL Product. I designed the full logic of Thank you pages. The library interaction to select and change products. The unbox card in the launchpad logic, and library and the apps unbox reminder also was something we defined. I also simulated the intro screens to the Brand team to work on the intro video about unboxing. And designed the full UI of the flow, with the step-tracker, bottom panel logic, cards selection, domain selection, connection and review screens, and processing screen. The Mobile version was also defined. I also defined the 3rd party connection guides, all the different connections of domains, and solving them for conflict, and also pushing products in the cart to the from of connection;
This required complete collaboration and cooperation between external and internal teams, decision-makers, and design colleagues, who maintained continuous communication. Since the flow directly impacted their work streams, it was essential to ensure full synchronization between development teams and the Design System team. Ongoing discussions across all teams were crucial to transform this ambitious idea into a tangible, real-world experience.
